Wire Mesh with Mesh or Elastomer Core, Single Strip

Shielding wire mesh strips have a high resilience that makes them ideal for low pressure applications. The one or two layers of mesh provide an excellent EMI/RFI shielding while the elastomer or mesh core provides a high degree of resiliency. Wire such as Monel, aluminum, Sn/Cu/Fe, or stainless steel are knit over various elastomers or mesh cores to achieve the required physical properties. Standard configurations are rectangular, round, round with mounting fin, and double round with mounting fin. Shielding effectiveness ranges from 35 dB at 10kHz, 110dB at 10 MHz, to 100 dB at 1 Ghz.

Mesh/Elastomer Multi-Strip and Ready Gaskets

The wire mesh combined with thin elastomer in either strips or other shapes, form an excellent EMI/RFI shield and provides a dust and moisture seal. Strips are available with pressure sensitive backing for easy mounting. In addition, clearance holes for mounting screws are provided in ready-made gaskets. Ready-Made gaskets are produced to customers specifications or drawings. The elastomer temperature ranges: Silicon Elastomer from -54 to 260 Deg C and for neoprene elastomer from -40 to 107 Deg C.

Mesh/Metal Gaskets Frames or Strips

Round cross sectional mesh with mounting fin securely crimped into the edge of an aluminum extrusion forms an excellent gasketing material used where a rigid gasket and a limited compression are required. A large variety of extrusions can be used and are supplied in strips or welded frames. Mounting holes can be drilled or punched to customers requirements or drawings.

Compressed Mesh Gaskets and Cable Wrap Mesh

O-ring or cylindrical gaskets made from knitted wire mesh through a compression die, made out of different materials and platings, are ideal for grounding or EMI/RFI seals around shafting
Designed for cable shielding, Cable Wrap Mesh is a continuous knitted wire mesh stocking flattened into a two-ply tape. It provides a four layer cover when half-overlap is used. Standard materials are aluminum, Monel, Sn/Cu/Fe and stainless steel. Standard tape width is 1 inch, large width are available.

Compressed-Mesh-Gaskets

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Knitted wire mesh strips or gaskets provide an excellent RFI/EMI shield on cabinets and enclosure doors where the mating surfaces are not parallel. Materials such as neoprene or silicone in solid, closed cell sponge or tubing cross sections are used to increase the compression characteristics of knitted mesh elastomer core.

Materials and Specifications

Wire  
Monel Meets QQ-N-281 Class A 0.0045 In. Diameter (0.002 or 0.0035 Inch Diameter on special order). Provides good contact, and is resistant to corrosion.
Aluminum Meets AMS 4182 Alloy 5052 0.005 Inch diameter. Used when electrochemical compatibility with an aluminum housing is necessary. Oxidation can be reduced by plating per MIL-C-5541
SN / CU / FE Meets ASTM-B-520 0.0045 Inch Diameter. Tin Plated Copper Clad Steel has close characteristics to Monel with better shielding at lower frequencies.
Stainless Steel Meets QQ-W-423 0.005 Inch Diameter

Solid – Per MIL-R-6855 Class II, Grade 40 Temperature Range -40 to 107 Degrees C
Silicone Sponge – AMS-3195

Standard Cross Section dimensions given are those
of the elastomer and due allowance must be made for mesh
thickness ( approx. 0.036 inc for two layers of mesh.

For slightly increase atenuation, three layers of mesh
should be specified. There is little benefit to be derived
from exceeding this number.

Silicone tubing versions can be supplied with a single layer of knitted
wire mesh.

Ready-Made Gaskets
Elastomer core shielding strips can be supplied in three forms:
a) Continuous Lengths
b) Cut to size
c) As completed gaskets.
